Scenarios USA's The Tale of Timmy Two Chins
Drama, 17 min. Directed by Nancy Savoca Timmy wanted nothing more than to be the focus of desire of his high school crush. Known around town as Timmy Two Chins, his large size made him feel unmanly, uninteresting and just plain invisible. Recognizing the family and social dynamics at play, Timmy takes a hard look at himself. Being manly and powerful is not about muscles, Timmy realizes, it begins with liking who he is. Directed by Nancy Savoca (True Love, Household Saints) written by Luis Hernandez (age 17) from Red Hook, Brooklyn and filmed in Cobble Hill and Bedford-Stuyvesant. Timmy Two Chins was produced by Brooklyn's Scenarios USA, a national non-profit organization that uses writing and film to engage young people on issues of social justice. Every year, as part of a custom-built curriculum, Scenarios sponsors a youth writing contest, selects three winning stories, and produces them into powerful short films directed by Hollywood directors. The films are given a gala premiere in New York City, and then integrated into the next Scenarios curriculum for hundreds of thousands of other young people to experience, identify with and be inspired by. |
