Big BagAnimation, 2014 / 14 min. (Spain) by Ricardo Coloma
Synopsis: Described by architect Rem Koolhaaas as the Rosetta Stone of XXI Century, New York city –an epitome of human footprint on earth– has been depicted by a good amount of modern and contemporary artists who built on their own experiences in the city. Departing from Spaniard architect Sáenz de Oiza envisionment as a "giant sculpture" to poet Fererico García Lorca's "coins in furious swarms", Brooklyn based animation filmmaker Ricardo Coloma uses these premises to render his own dystopian depiction of the metropolis: a giant mobile that always dictates where and when to an alienated "pupett" society, – ultimately fueled by the liquid post-modern deity: money. Credits: Animation and editing: Ricardo Coloma Music: Antton Barandiaran and Ricardo Martín Castillo Awards: LA Indie Film Festival 2014: Best Animation - Jury Award 2014 Weyauwega International Film Festival : Best Animated Short Film - Jury Award 2015 Flagler Film Festival: Best Animation - Audience Award Mentions: Short Sweet Film Fest 2015: Outstanding Animation Festival Selections and Screenings between 2014-2015: 2015 Brooklyn Film Festival (US) 2015 Flagler Film Festival (US) 2014 Weyauwega International Film Festival (US) 5th Annual Art of Brooklyn Film Festival (US) Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival (US) 5th Festival de Courts Métrages de la Côte Bleue (France) Mostra Curta Tudo da 7ª edição do Arraial Cine Fest (Portugal) CreaVa 15 - Valladolid (Spain) IV Festival Curtmirages - Barcelona (Spain) XI KO&Digital Festival Internacional de Cine Solidario de Barcelona (Spain) Festimation 2014! Spanish director Ricardo Martin Coloma immerses us in an airborne puppet universe where everyone and everything soars from moment to moment on clockwork strings. The device isn't the most original, but Coloma's particular spin, discreet use of color and dizzying mastery of animated camera motion makes this one of the freshest and most enjoyable pieces in the festival." |
